How long did you search on Petfinder.com before you found the right dog/gave up?

Question by Tinaaaaâ„¢: How long did you search on Petfinder.com before you found the right dog/gave up?
Me, still looking, no luck. were you looking for a specific breed?
Even if you didn’t get your dog from petfinder, how long did it take you to find it and what source did you get it from? :)
i’d love to be able to take in ANY dog but my dad and brother needs a hypoallergenic dog. like my cairn terrier.

I gave up a while ago and started looking for breeders, I found one today and I will get the new dog tomorrow. :)

We’ve been looking for the past couple months. I didn’t care about the breed, but my husband wanted another poodle, so we found one we are adopting on Saturday. He is in a Rescue that’s about four hours away. I didn’t care if it was a purebred or mutt.

Maybe you need to expand your search horizons and/or not be so specific about a particular breed. They are going to be spayed or neutered, so it really doesn’t matter if you have a purebred or a mutt from a shelter. Being as these dogs will not be bred, it doesn’t matter if they have flaws.

My dog I have now was given to us by a breeder we knew when we moved back up to ND. We were living in NC. She’s a 2 yr old Toy Poodle. My first dog we found abandoned. My second dog came from a shelter. My third one was a puppy mill mama that was rescued by the guy that gave her to us.

Edit: Maybe you need to travel a couple hundred miles to a shelter to find a Cairn Terrier.

Or google Cairn Terrier Rescues in your area. Many breed specific rescues are not listed on petfinder.com

Well it kinda depends on how hard im looking. I found a ton of results and some great dogs but you can find a flaw in all of them it just matters on how much you want a dog.

Adopt a poodle then. Not a cross most poodle crosses are given up because they have the coat of the other parent and do shed.

Started with petfinder when I was looking for a dog/pup in general 2 1/2 years ago. Then I started on a specific breed. For now I am going with a breeder but the next of the similar breed will be from one of the rescues that uses petfinder.
