It depends on the shelter the dog is from. Each shelter has its own pricing. Pricing includes the medical work done, like spay or neuter and shots. If you are adopting from an animal control the price may be less then a rescue but the dog will have had less done medically then with a dog from a rescue.

It will also depend on the area you are looking it. Dogs from shelters in larger population areas will typically be higher priced then those coming from rural areas because medical costs tend to be high in higher population areas. It can also depend on if the shelter has a vet on staff or if all vet work has to be done at vet clinics.

On the types, purebreds, mixed or both, it also depends on if you are looking at an animal control, all breed rescue, or a purebred rescue. Most breed specific rescues have mostly if not all purebred dogs while the others have mixes as well.

Petfinder does not adopt out dogs itself, it is a website that lists dogs from all over the country. Each shelter is responsible for listing their available animals and keeping their listing current. All the shelter have the indivdual pet listings and then also have a homepage. If the price isn't on the dog's own page it will usually be found on the main shelter page. You can get to that page from the dog listing by clicking on the shelter name below the dog's picture.

Petfinder itself doesn't sell dogs. Petfinder is a website that animal shelters and rescues around the country use to give the dogs they have for adoption publicity and helps potential adopters find the perfect dog for them, as near to their home location as possible.

Every shelter and rescue has different fees. Some pounds are practically giving dogs away (there's one near me that has a fee of $ 10, but you're not getting much for that $ 10 in the way of vet checks, neutering, shots, etc...). Our local shelter has a fee of $ 75 for adult dogs, which includes shots, a vet check and spay/neuter. Some breed rescues, which are usually run out of private homes by people who spend their own personal money on taking the dogs to the vet and getting their shots, can be a good deal more, $ 150-$ 250 usually. All of these types of organizations use Petfinder to help potential adopters find the pets they have for adoption.

There are both purebreds and mutts on petfinder. You can search for a particular breed if you're interested in one breed, or you can just type in your zip code and see all the available dogs near you.

some pure, some mixed, some REALLY unknown.

I got a 12 your old poodle - no cost, cause he was a senior animal,

i got two 9 month old terri-poos from the SPCA through petfinder and they were 100 dollars each - but they had had their shots and been neutered.

it will vary based on the breed, the rescue group, maybe the age and health of the dog. Might also vary by your part of the country. It isn't petfinder that gets the money.

I think about $ 8 a pound. But if you’re not real hungry you might get a cat instead.

Well, the dogs on petfinder mainly come from different shelters, so it depends on what the adoption fee for that shelter is. Sometimes they will list the adoption fee!
