On the types, purebreds, mixed or both, it also depends on if you are looking at an animal control, all breed rescue, or a purebred rescue. Most breed specific rescues have mostly if not all purebred dogs while the others have mixes as well.

Some pounds are practically giving dogs away (there’s one near me that has a fee of $ 10, but you’re not getting much for that $ 10 in the way of vet checks, neutering, shots, etc…). Our local shelter has a fee of $ 75 for adult dogs, which includes shots, a vet check and spay/neuter. Some breed rescues, which are usually run out of private homes by people who spend their own personal money on taking the dogs to the vet and getting their shots, can be a good deal more, $ 150-$ 250 usually.
