Question by acrawls09: What’s the best Austin-area pet adoption service if I have to give away a dog with slight behavioral issues?
I have a relatively large Chesapeake Bay / Golden Retriever mix who was abused in the past, and therefore he’s a bit wary around humans. Not at all beyond salvation, since a friend was able to gain his trust by herself, but he needs just a little bit of work. Due to unfortunate circumstances I have to give him away. Does anyone recommend a decent adoption service for an 8-month old large dog?

I would start by contacting local breed rescue for both Chessies and Goldens – both tend to be active and willing to help place a dog that is even partially their breed:

Otherwise, your vet, trainer, or a local dog club will often know of an individual looking for or willing to take a “fixer upper” dog… many common behavioral problems stem from incorrectly channeling things that trainers love to have in a dog like high drive, sensitivity to corrections, and intelligence.
Good luck!
