petharbor.com and dogsindanger.com are good if you’re looking for a rescue dog.
Well unfortunately nowadays you just can’t trust most sites, as BYB’s and puppy mills have got wise to the power of the internet.
(Sorry I can’t offer any, I’m in the UK although http://www.champdogs.co.uk if you are too)
puppyfind.com
pets4you.com
Craigslist.com
I would check for particular breeds rescue website (if you know what breed you want). Your local ASPCA may also have a website with the listing of animals in their care.
http://www.nextdaypets.com
craigslist.com is great
http://www.kijiji.com and http://www.puppyfind.com are both good sites. Good luck.
Maybe Craigslist.com? I can’t remember if they have a Pets section or not. But it may be under another heading, or even under Free. Good luck!
please please don’t go to a petstore!! the animals are MORE THAN LIKELY from puppymills. DO NOT support a petstore in that way. go to the shelter!! I volunteer for new orleans rescue and i can help you. let me know through email. thanks.

can search by area
Depends what kind of dog you want I guess. I think petfinder is the best if you want to rescue an animal but if you want a puppy and a purebreed one you mights want to go the that specific breeds club website and get reffered to a breeder in your area. I found my pup’s breeder on the akc website and that worked well for me but I did do lots of research prior to finding my Cleo Bella so remember to do that too and you’ll be very happy with the results as I am.
i like petfinder, found two of my dogs that way- you just have to be patient and sometime look for awhile. try local rescue groups specific to the breed, local humae society
go to google and type in a search for the breed of dog you are looking for and rescue society…there are so many rescue foundations out there for every breed of dog imaginable not only are you giving a dog a home that was abandoned or neglected it could also save you alot of money. breeders are kinda expensive sometimes. we got our weimarner through a rescue society he was only a few months old and i couldn’t ask for a better dog…
The best site ever dude:
http://www.pedigree.com.au/breeds/
only ignorant back yard greeder and puppy mills advertise puppies on the internet – even on the AKC site they are only bad breeders there since it is essentially just like a newspaper and AKC doesn’t have any criteria for advertisers except that they payment be made. I reviewed a lot of the breeders there and they are all bad breeders. Contact the specific breed’s parent club and see about finding a breeder referral and learn about the breed and what health, temperament and structural testing a good breeder does and learn as much as you can and then check out referred breeders from the parent club breeder referral. Be a responsible dog obtainer.
PLEASE avoid sites such as puppies4you and puppyfinder and nextdaypets and breeders.net. They are all fronts for puppy mills. Even if you aren’t disgusted enough by the conditions in puppy mills not to want to buy from them, remember you will likely get a sickly puppy who is poorly socialized and nearly impossible to housebreak.
If you are looking for a purebred dog, go to the AKC site, look for the breed and then for the national club. There you can learn more about the breed and find responsible breeders in your area.
